Artist’s statement:

The failure of western psychedelic culture is now, has always been, and will continue to be a failure to take shamanism seriously. Hallucinogenic mind explosions mean nothing when filtered through the deranged lens of capitalist techno savior fantasy. The genocide against indigenous psychedelic societies was predicated on a philosophical genocide. Among the conquerors, literal witch hunting accomplished the same goal, which was to eliminate the competition to expansionary imperialist death trap ideology. Organized religion is but a tool of this larger dominion.

Wherever you look in history there have always been those who proposed that we are not humans, but rather vibrating energy beings made of pure imagination. We are what we see in our dreams essentially. Mainstream science makes no claim to understand something as integral to the human experience as our ability to stretch consciousness to the outer reaches of eternal ecstatic peace. Others try to remind us, and we typically treat those people like trash honestly. Jesus, psychedelics are still a felony in 49 States and speaking of Jesus, the whole story is that we publicly executed the dude, isn’t it?

Sort of my point and sorry for trying to write all serious like DJ Spooky there for a paragraph and a half before breaking character. The album title File Under Shamanism is in fact a reference to his classic collaboration with the Freight Elevator Quartet (File Under Futurism) and it’s the first new Thanaton material in 15 years. Thanaton of course being my ongoing electronic exercise in stretching consciousness with sound. It all started back in 1996 with a $100 sampler, a crappy apartment in Oxford, Ohio and a thousand eyed daemon god channeled through living drugs.

The album itself in conjunction with the artwork are intended to work as a psychic device designed for telepathically connecting with exotic forms of plant intelligence, specifically weed. Whereas a lot of my past forays into auditory sorcery have involved seeking alien contact via psilocybin ritual, this one’s all about the dank magick friends. Paid downloads include instructions as well as the materials needed to “achieve contact” as it were and I can explain the elegant metaphysics underlying the entire operation rather succinctly.

The internet is merely a metaphor for the fact that all consciousness is connected. It’s what I’ve often referred to as synthetic telepathy. With that in mind, new forms of glorious information can theoretically be downloaded directly from the overmind source. Your entire worldview can be expanded and updated to a new directive of cosmic bliss elevation. These sounds and images were specifically designed to be projected as an internal signal to the galactic psi core. Ladies and gentlemen space is floating in you.
